Lack of interest in studying is the major complaint among parents about their children as kids have a lot on their plate. The only way to keep your child's interested in studying is to experiment and innovate new ways to make learning exciting for them. Innovative teaching techniques can encourage your child to think creatively and use their imagination and ultimately become more innovative in their own lives. As a parent, it becomes your responsibility to come up with a solution that makes their life easy.
Create an environment for studying:
Focus and concentration are very essential for quality study time. Find a study place outside of the home's common area decorate the study place for your child with some study posters like study timetable, maps, math's table, mathematical formulas etc. as per their class. During study time try to keep mobile phones on silent mode and avoid talking on the phone so as not to distract their concentration, nearby TV and noisy siblings may also distract their focus.
2. Make a study plan :
It is very well said 'If you fail to plan, you plan to fail'. Making a proper study plan for every month is a very important aspect for better results. It will help your child to set some targets and will help them make a habit of cheesing their goals. This will improve their interest in studying and putting this habit at an early age will prepare your child for all types of competitions and challenges coming their way.
Use online resources:
Developing technology in recent years has reached every household giving rise to new ways of learning through videos, games, etc.. introduce your child to study-based YouTube videos, games, etc. This will make learning easy and interesting for them and also will help them to memorize things for longer periods. So try to navigate new educational apps and study platforms that keep games at the core.
Connect Learning to Real Life:
Relate what they are studying to everyday life. For example you can use cooking to teach measurements and tech counting while shopping. Take field trips to museums or nature shots or zoo to make learning more tangible.
Incorporate Creativity:
Encourage your kids to express what they have learned through drawings, crafts, or storytelling. Use music or rhythms to make memorization more engaging.
Talk to the Teacher :
Use worksheets:
Most of the kids find subjects like Math, Science, and English Grammar very annoying, and when it comes to learning the spelling they find it much harder. They struggle to reach the perfection level and to remember it for a longer period. Give your child to solve some worksheets related to these subjects. Solving worksheets will help them study subjects of their least interest in a better way and will gradually improve interest in boring subjects as well. This method of studying will also help them to remember important yet complicated terms for a longer period.
Compliment and Reward System:
Always try to compliment your child for every correct answer they give or even for a good response. Even if it is wrong you should maintain a habit of complimenting your child for the efforts made too, like "Ohh! You are quite close to the answer honey". This will motivate your kid and they will find interest in chasing the correct answer also it will make them realize that finding solutions to the problems will reward them in life.
Create a simple reward system for completing tasks or reaching learning goals. Rewards can be small treats, extra playtime, or a special outing. It will be a master key to improving their confidence.
Read to them:
Children love to listen to stories. For them to be interested in reading and learning, you will have to make a habit to read to them every possible day. It can be a bedtime story , Poems , or chapters from their book. Kids have wide imaginations and so they will love to listen to your reading and will develop a fascination for reading and learning as well.
It is a wise idea to set goals that are achievable and can be achieved with dedication and hard work. Make short term, medium-term and long term studying goals with your kids so that they stays motivated and alert in the studies.
Make Study Time a Fun Time:
Try Storytelling:
You can develop your kid’s interest in studying by constructive storytelling. You may tell them some stories that lay stress on the importance of studies and education in life.
Teach Them Learn From Failure :
Failures are a part of life and are not the end of the world. Even if your kid gets low grades, encourage and empathies with your child and tell them its okay to make mistakes and help them to learn from them.
Encourage short breaks:
Make sure your kid takes breaks in between to refresh their brain. During the break, urge your kid to take a walk, grab a snack, check in with friends or work on a hobby.
Encourage your child to play on the ground:
Children playing games on phones and LCDs is the new normal. But also encourage them to play on the ground and do some physical activities. Figure out their most interesting physical activity and encourage them to do it. This will help your child to be physically and mentally active which in turn will help them to concentrate on studying.
Remember that every child is unique, so it might take some trial and error to figure out what works best for your child. The key is to make learning enjoyable and show them that it can be a fun and exciting adventure!
